The OS X Maverick release date is expected to be next week.

Apple unveiled OS X Mavericks, its latest operating system, ditching the big cat names of its predecessors. The Cupertino-based company promises users that the latest OS will deliver extended battery life, increased responsiveness, new apps, and improved Finder features.
One of the biggest updates to Finder is tabs, which will let users minimize the number of windows open by managing multiple tabs within one Finder window. Another addition is tagging, which will allow users to save files, pictures, and other documents with multiple tags to increase organization and ease of searching. Tags will work with documents saved to iCloud as well.
Apple announced users will experience improved responsiveness with OS X Mavericks through memory enhancements. When a user accesses a document or application, inactive memory is immediately compressed, allowing the active processes to utilize free memory immediately.
Mavericks will also allow for multiple displays with docs extending to both screens; users will also be able to pan spaces on a second screen independently. It was also stated that with OS X Mavericks, when apps are put into full screen mode on one display, it will no longer affect the other screen in use. Users with Airplay-enabled HDTVs will be able to use their HDTVs as a full power display.
Updated apps on OSX Mavericks include Mail, Calendar, Maps, Notifications, iBooks, and Safari. Mail will become more responsive with better scrolling, and the Calendar will feature locations within events as well as Facebook integration. Maps will work with the Calendar to update events with travel time and will feature the ability to notify users when they should leave to make an appointment. Users can even tailor travel time to walking in addition to driving. Maps will also feature the ability to send directions right to the user's smartphone.
OS X Mavericks will be available this fall, but Apple did not give a specific release date or price point for the software. In addition to an updated OS X, Apple announced iOS 7, iTunes Radio, a new Macbook Air and Mac Pro.
